Cinema 4D Hair Pack #2

$5+

Want to add some hair to those bald character renders but not sure where to start? Trying to use the c4d hair system, and getting frustrated? This pack is for you! Instead of spending hours trying to sort that all out - pop one of these styles on your character and render! Easy breezy.

***DOWNLOAD THIS FREE PLUGIN TO USE THE TWO BRAIDED STYLES***

https://www.codeworkers.de/garage-plugins-reeperx_eng.html

(specifically, just the 'SE' version will work. This plugin generates braid splines).

This pack includes these 5 styles:

  • long sideswept hair
  • mullet hairstyle
  • decorative braided buns (requires the free reeper plugin above)
  • dreads with shaved undercut
  • braid with bangs (requires the free reeper plugin above)

And if you want even MORE hairstyles - check out the first pack here: https://virtuallyvisual.gumroad.com/l/hairpack1

-> The characters I use are the Gen8 female + male base meshes from DAZ, which are FREE, btw. Highly recommend Daz for character animating/posing.

HOW TO ATTACH HAIR TO YOUR CHARACTER:

written guide:

  • copy the hairstyle from it's scene, to where you have your animated fbx character - such as in a new file.
  • drag the hairstyle's null (main folder all the hair components are nested under) into place over your character's scalp. Use 'E' on your keyboard to toggle transforms, and 'R' to toggle rotations, in C4D.
  • Click the 'constraint' tag on the 'baldcap' object. Find the 'target object' field. It should be empty by default.
  • Find the 'head' bone of your character's armeture and drag that bone into this 'target object' field on the constraint tag, on the baldcap. Now the hair will follow your rig/animation's movement.
  • click the 'shrink wrap' layer under your baldcap object. Find the empty 'target' area field. Drag your character's mesh into this area. The hair will auto-snap to the mesh more accurately.

video guide:

RESIZING THE HAIR/BALDCAP TO FIT:

  • by default you'll be in 'model' mode in C4D. If you hold down over the cube 'model' icon, you can change this to 'object'. Now when you scale, the hair and the baldcap should scale correctly. Adjust this to fit your character as needed.

TIPS:

  • hairs in the viewport will not completely represent how hairs will look in the final render. See the below image as an example:

  • Some hairstyle parts will have dynamics ON, and others will have it OFF.
  • If hairs glitch out of place for whatever reason - hit 'Re-root' in the GUIDES->Growth section, on the hair object. This usually fixes this issue. See the below for reference:
  • If your scene is extremely slow to navigate, you can do two things: A) set the detail percentage for the hair lines in the VIEWPORT tab to a lower number - it is 25% by default, or B) set the hairs to show as 'guide lines' instead of 'hair lines' in the VIEWPORT tab. See the below screenshot:

  • the 'braided buns' has several 'constraint' tags. Make sure you set the parent object on all of these to follow the 'head' bone in your armature. Not JUST the constraint on the baldcap. (you want all the hair pieces to follow head movement)

FAQ'S

WHAT IF HAIRS MOVE THROUGH MY CHARACTER?

  • Add the 'hair collider' (hair tags->hair collider) tag to your character mesh, and/or clothing meshes before simulating hair!

HAIRS ARE INTERSECTING WITH MY CHARACTER AT THE START, HOW DO I FIX THAT?

  • Cinema 4D has a 'groom' tab in the top right menu bar. By clicking that, you'll be brought to a new viewport/workspace, with groom tools on the lefthand side of your screen.
  • Click the brush icon, and manually brush/drag the guides you need out of the character's mesh, where you saw intersections.
  • Re-simulate your hair. You should be good to go.

I WANT MORE/LESS STIFFNESS TO MY HAIR:

  • Hair stiffness is controlled by a couple of values in the 'Dynamics'->Properties section; 'Rest Mix' and 'Rest Hold'. Please see this video (at 16:12) for a more detailed explanation on how these values control the hair dynamics.

I STILL HAVE ISSUES/QUESTIONS?
